Rip Van Diego

The day before yesterday, the toothache came back with a vengence, and I was strung out on Percocet, Vicodin, and swigging of whiskey - Well, needless to say, the pain didn't really go away, but my brain was adequately fucked. But not enough to launch me into a slumber. Everytime I laid down, the pain came rushing back from my love tool to my face, and my tooth would scream. Seriously, if one was really quiet, one could hear the quiet squeal of my tooth.

So I got propped up and popped in Eddie Izzard's "Glourious", and proceeded to do the head bop sleep. After an hour of impacting my necks muscles, I got into bed and crashed, despite the pain. It was like 4 in the morning.

At ten, my wife woke me up and told me to call the dentist, in case they had an opening. They did, and it was at 11, so I had to drag my half-asleep butt out of bed to look somewhat presentable. I was reluctant to move because I was tired, but also because the pain actually subsided a bit.

At the dentist, I was on nitrous oxide and they decided to to fill the cavity in my lower right, which I think was the original problem - before all the wisdom tooth crap. But you know, laying there, half awake and drowsy, looking up to a bright light and the shadows of two masked people with metal tools hanging out of your mouth, I wonder why I don't go more often.

I went home, and went to bed, sleeping till 3 in the afternoon. I was up for a couple hours, and then spent about an hour on the couch, waking up occasionally to tell the kids to cease beatings, and then went back to sleep. My mom finally told me to go back upstairs to rest, which I did. Woke up around 9, thinking that the kids were already in bed, but they were just brushing their teeth. So at least I got to put them to bed, which was kinda nice.

But then I just spaced for a couple more hours before sleeping again.

And today I've got a dull headache, probably my brain being surprised that I wasn't comatose after all.

My Body is a Temple... of Doom!

I don't like drugs very much. Never touched the illegal stuff, and the legal drugs I usually use as a last resort. But these toothaches that's been plaguing me piehole has been so severe, that it seems like I'm trying to take my weight in pills.

Yes, after a thousand bucks of tooth extractions, the pain is back. I was fine till this afternoon, and after two Tylenols, one Vicodin, one Percocet about an hour later, I decided to resort to the old wives remedy of swigging the affected area with whiskey. The first time worked pretty well, but when I laid down to rest, the pain came back. I reckon it was the blood rushing to the infected area. So I tried it a second time, and I held it in my mouth so long that the fumes in my mouth made me cough, and then I just imploded. There's nothing left of me. Just a hand. To type this.

----

So I haven't done anything on the wedding front for a few days now, and likely won't tonight. The pain subsided, but my brain is pretty scattered.

Swirly.

----

Speaking of which, I don't remember where I was going with this. So...

Um. What?

So I was posting last night about the toothache that was keeping me up, right?

Three Tylenols didn't work, neither did one Vicodin. And some salt water. After the second Vicodin, I was so tired that I just had to fall asleep finally. At 6 something in the morning. I had fallen asleep for about half an hour at three something, but my wife tossed and her arm smacked me on the head and woke me up.

I woke up at one something in the afternoon, very confused. Felt like I pissed the whole day away. Well, I'll be getting some work done tonight. To offset the sleeping in.

If you've been keeping track of youtube and David O. Russell, I hope he never makes another movie again. An on-set camera caught his fight with Lily Tomlin on I Heart Huckabees, and that man is an absolute tool. I've been unprofessional, but this man is ridiculous. He calls Tomlin "bitch" and "cunt", and tosses things around the set like some deranged egotist who thinks his movie warrants his behavior. Makes me wish George Clooney had went ahead and strangled him in "Three Kings."

---

Well, work it is.

Ouch.

I should be in bed now, but since my teeth has decided to act up again, I'm just staying up, waiting for the Tylenol to kick it. I wouldn't be able to fall asleep anyway, with the pain. Yes, this pain was as bad as the pain that brought me into the dentist's office in the first place, before all that wisdom teeth got yanked.

Incidentally, I got an explanation of the benefits from that procedure today, and somehow when they said 90 percent coverage, in layman math, it's more like 50 percent. Which means I might have a thousand plus balance I have to pay. I'll be talking to them soon.

We've been watching "The Riches" on FX, and it's different. The main reason why I'm watching it is because of Eddie Izzard, whom I think is one of the best comedians out there because his comedy is not the usual stereotype baiting crap that floats around. He doesn't have to necessarily demean the other sex or another race to get a cheap laugh. He has an absurdist type of humor, which I think is something I enjoy, being a Stephen Chow fan on top of that. Anyway, I can't help but watch the show and think, hee hee, that's Izzard trying to be American. From Louisiana. Minnie Driver's pretty good, other than the fact that she's always looked a bit... acute to me. I dunno, her face is both very obtuse and acute, like a contradictary face that's easy and hard to look at.

Yeah.

So, Eddie himself has commented in his standup that he does two accents - James Mason and Sean Connery. In this he's doing Eddie with the British toned down. It's not here or there, but he's still fun to look at. And why the other "travellers" in camp look more like cast members of "My Name is Earl" and why Eddie Izzard looks like a real estate agent is beyond me. But the series itself is interesting, the concept is interesting, and I'm watching it because it's Eddie.

Zoe has a flair for threatrics, something that was recessive in our genes that somehow surfaced despite a lack of influence from her mother, her older sisters, or any TV show we watch. Admittedly, a lot of shows we watch are either catered more to boys or the asexual persuasion, but Zoe's just got that Princess breed in her.

Tonight at dinner, my wife was talking to me, and Zoe tapped her on the shoulder. When she turned to look at Zoe, Zoe had this flirty little smirk on her face, and she did this dainty little wave with her fingers, shrugged her shoulders and crinkled her nose. If she wasn't my child, I'd swear she was some showbiz acting kid trying to get a spot of Barney. Them showkids on Barney make me physically angry. I actually don't mind Barney, but man, those kids with their over acting...

But she did that and I just burst into laughter. It was cute, but I think I laughed because it was so brilliantly cheesy and innocent at the same time.

We're trying to figure out Alex today. He's been not listening, acting a little too independent, and perhaps a little sensitive as well. He can be defiant when we ask him something, but once we raise our voice, sometimes he just falls apart, even if we're not really that angry, but just want to be heard. He plays beyond acceptable boundaries sometimes, being a little rough with us or Zoe, or just play fighting with us and shoving things at our faces - it's all normal boy behavior, I suppose, but it's a little aggressive even for me. I really want to instill some compassion into him and get him to control the aggression a little...

And just trying to give him due attention because he is really a sweet boy. I actually like it during bedtime because he's really cuddly then. He'll demand a hug, a kiss, and he'll say, "Goodnight, Daddy."

We were watching a video of him tonight from two years ago, and you could pluck the sighs out of the air. They sure do grow fast.

Oh, Okay.

My wife had told me this earlier, but either because I was so hopped up on drugs or that I was dying of pain, it didn't register. But I guess the reason why there's been such a headache and the pain has been worse in one corner of my mouth is because the wisdom tooth in the lower right was actually so messed up it had grown into my jawline. So they essentially had to cut into the bone in my face to free up that tooth, and that's why the pain is causing the headaches.

Today it's doing better than the other mornings, still pain in minor touches, but I did go all night without any middle of the night doses of anything. Eating is still a pain - last night I had antibiotic pasta with antibiotic Diet coke, which all taste bitter and icky. Man, I want real food so bad. Like a big Subway sandwich.

Oh well, gotta do some serious work now. Fell behind all week.

My Pissy Rant

Yeah, this isn't a fun post, so if you're not in the mood for incessant whining with little merit, it's probably best to skip this post.

Well, the swelling has gone down a little, but not that much. I still have to adhere to the percocet (ran out of Vicodin) and 4 ibuprofen for the headache and toothache every 4 to 5 hours - problem is, the percocet tends to make me naueous and dizzy and fatigued, and I'd like to do without it but the headaches are quite unbearable. So I take it, and I feel like sleeping the whole day.

Went to the follow-up appointment today at the oral surgeon, and they didn't do much except repack the lower right side of my mouth, and refilled my Vicodin. I didn't get really anything looked at, just took out the painful pack and then shoved another in there, and now the whole day I've been tasting antiseptic, which is bitter and quite unsettling. It's like I have someone's old toothbrush in my mouth.

So I came back, in pain, drowsy, and tried to work on an old job. I did a wedding and sent it off, and she wanted the whole thing redone because I got the date and location wrong at the beginning of the video, and for some odd reason it tends to skip a bit too, which is odd. So I've been trying to reconnect the media but it's been freaking out on me. Relinking the wrong clips to the source material and whatnot, so it's been a freaking headache. I'm trying a cheat right now, see if that works without having to reauthor the DVD. We'll see.

The last 5 days of soup, instant noodles, and ice cream is getting on my nerves too. I see food ads and I'd kill to have a burger, some pasta, something substantial. The soft foods experience is driving me batty and annoyed. I'm going to try some stuffed pasta, see how that goes.

And yeah, I feel like a nap now, but I still gotta make sure the kids have dinner. My recovery time is no doubt longer than most people, but I'm ready for it to be over. I'm so out of it I can't work, but I can't relax because I'm on a lot of deadlines. Man, I need some relief soon.

The other thing that's annoyed me is hearing about the Chair of Comedy Central having to step down because of the whole Boston Teen Aqua Force Bomb scare. I think it's stupid and it's just a network trying to scapegoat someone in order to avoid legal action, because a bunch of people got excited at a LED display that was never ever made to resemble any type of bomb. It's atrocious. GNNNNAAAHHH I'm pissed.

Bond, Sleep, and Medication

I have this thing with medication. Usually I shun it, thinking that if I have a headache, I probably just need a nap. If I have a cold, I just have to drink more liquids. I don't usually veer toward any type of medication, though not because of some holistic philosophy or notion that my body is some sort of temple, because if you've seen my belly, there's no worshipping going on there. I think I just don't think I need it - that over-medicating can eventually break down your immune system, and soon all the drugs in the world wouldn't do a thing for me.

That said, when the pain really piles on, I usually over-medicate. Like the time I had two kinds of allergy medicines and a glass of wine. Boy, that was a power nap. My wife even called the doctor because I was unresponsive to words, burns, and my arm being amputated. (Don't worry, I grew it back.)

So yesterday, I had this killer headache, the second one I had this year, which just floors me. Can't think, can't do much except lie down on the bed with a pillow over my eyes. Usually I would sleep from the early afternoon until the late afternoon, when the sun dips behind the clouds and it gets slightly darker. So that threw my sleep off a lot, and I was pretty bright eyed and bushy assed at night.

I decided to take my wife to see Casino Royale last night, my first actual enjoyable James Bond venture. I usually watch Bond movies thinking, "Wow, that's a cool trick, but I still don't know what the hell is going on." Usually a Bond movie for me are just gadgets, stunts, and sometimes the girls. Not always the girls because sometimes the girls they pick are just wallpapers - they're not interesting characters that I care about. And the plot's usually about some global political technobabble designed to leave viewers impressed with odd foreign jargon which likely makes no sense to anyone else. But we all think that someone else understands what's going on.

Anyway, Daniel Craig is quite good - not quite Brosnan's look, but certainly a more functional, interesting Bond he makes. Brosnan's seems like the one who seduces the women and looks cool blowing stuff up, but Craig makes for a more believable Bond because you feel like he's out to get the job done, and he has a drive to get it done. The stunts are old school - my type of action movie whereby CG doesn't pee all over the picture. Honestly, when Brosnan was surfing and parachuting in some CG crap the last picture, I started to get really annoyed by it.

Bringing Casino Royale back to basics was the best thing they've done for the genre. If you haven't seen it, do so. Or wait for the DVD in march.

Back to the medication. So the movie got out at 1am, and when we went home my wisdom tooth was starting to hurt. And then I couldn't sleep. I'd lay down, start to drift off, and the tooth would just wake me up. This happened all night, and needless to say, I didn't get any sleep, even after various salt rinses, a Percocet, and 2 advils. This morning, everyone was concerned about my sour face and I took two Tylenol PMs my mom gave me, two Percocets, and guess what - I crashed on the couch and died.

Right now I'm feeling better - a little disoriented, but at least my tooth doesn't hurt.
